Jessica Herrmann is a bassist, guitarist, and singer-songwriter based in Nevada County, California. A childhood spent listening to all the rock n’ roll radio stations inspired her to pick up her father’s old guitar as a teenager. Originally self-taught for years, she eventually pursued independent studies in classical guitar with Celtic fingerstyle guitarist William Coulter during her time as a biology major at UC Santa Cruz. From there, across travels from San Francisco to Boston, she went on to study jazz improvisation and composition under Michael Zisman, Jeff Massanari, and Bobby Stanton. Taking a job as a seasonal vineyard worker high in the foothills of California’s Sierra Nevada region led to her involvement in the local folk and roots music community, where she has since played with several Grass Valley bands including the Breakovers (bluegrass-folk-Americana) and Devil’s Footprint (folk-rock and country). With a style that blends elements of American folk traditions with jazz improvisation, Jessica is available as a soloist, versatile accompanist, and private instructor in Nevada and Placer Counties.
